Ever been overwhelmed by your introversion in public?Yesterday, my introversion got the best of me. I fainted in the most public of places—a rock concert! And it hadn't even started yet.Surrounded by hundreds of strangers, my friend and I entered the security line for an Elvis Costello and Daryl Hall concert. Moments in, I felt overwhelmed by the crowd. I scanned around and saw a bald man cackling with madness and a middle-aged woman dancing slowly with fake deer antlers on her head. No, I wasn’t hallucinating and open spaces don't scare me. I blurted out to my friend, “I’m not feeling well.” Then, darkness.I woke up to a young woman dressed in black asking if I was alright. She and two EMT responders were assisting me. It felt like waking from a deep sleep. Lying there, I felt the sun’s gentle glow and heard the opening act from 500 feet away. In that moment, I was strangely comforted. It felt reassuring to have my friend watching over me, too.As I get older, I’m not built for concert-going. My introversion reminded me of that. Yet, I got up, dusted myself off, and experienced an enjoyable evening with my friend. Elvis Costello was incredible live, though Daryl Hall’s voice isn’t what it used to be.Final thoughts… Sometimes, introversion can overwhelm us in public, but it’s also a reminder of our boundaries. How do you handle your introversion in public? Let’s discuss in the comments!#introverts

Hey introverts, even if you’re NOT gearing up for a big speech or a TED Talk, this cheat sheet from Nausheen I. Chen can be a lifesaver. But here's a twist to handling interruptions: Thank them for interrupting. Wait, what!?You can say, "Thanks for the enthusiasm. We'll get to that topic soon."Unless they're being a complete jerk, you can actually encourage their energy. The next time you speak, they'll feel welcomed and happy to help you out. And likely to NOT interrupt again.#communication #introverts

Number 7 trait hits me right where it counts. Highly strategic thinkers flow at a rate that isn't always gentle and can appear "kinda unprofessional". I let a few f-bombs drop during my coaching sessions. The lovely byproduct is that you appear human and less drone. I see you Phyllis Williams-Strawder and raise you. 😊

Think coaching is about consulting? Think again…Last year, a coaching client yelled at me, “If I knew what to do, I wouldn’t have come to you!” A few months earlier, she was invited to Seattle to pitch her startup, aiming to raise $500k in early-stage funding. She was fraught with nerves and anxiety—understandably so.After her outburst, I replied:"Okay, let’s imagine you say my exact words and win the pitch. Then, who gets the credit? Me or you?""Now, let’s flip that script. You say my exact words and lose the pitch. Whose fault is it, then? I get to walk away, but you must live with that loss.""So, I’m never going to tell you what to do. But I'll provide guidance, tools, and accountability." Coaching isn't about giving answers but empowering clients to find their own. How do you see the role of a coach? Let’s discuss in the comments!#introverts #coaching #communication

A useful post from Nausheen I. Chen on avoiding weak words. One word I'd discourage using, especially at the end of a statement, is "...right?" It's a tag question seeking validation. For example: "My spreadsheet formulas have been effective, right? So, you must use them." Just state your point confidently and leave out the "right?" It strengthens your argument.Do you have any other words to add?#communication #confidence #introverts

Ever think about what needs to end for something new to begin? The weather was miserable as my son and I arrived at Meadowdale Beach Park. The rain was unforgiving. See, I was chaperoning a school field trip to observe erosion—a recent class lesson brought to life. This park isn’t ordinary; to reach the beach, you must hike 2 miles through a rainforest. Early in the hike, the teacher stopped to point out a rotting cedar tree. Despite its decay, it had grown huckleberry plants. This huckleberry thrives only when the giant tree is dead and rotting. Imagine that—something new can only come into being when something else dies.As a coach, I see this as a powerful metaphor. Many of my clients find that for their potential to grow, a limiting belief or negative self-talk must first die.Key takeaway: Just as the huckleberry thrives only when the cedar tree decays, our potential needs the death of old, limiting beliefs first. What do you need to let go of to grow? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Think coaching is only for solving problems? Think again…What I'm about to say might shock you: my clients don't need a coach—they're already doing extraordinary things. Too often, coaching is seen as only showing up when there's a problem. Even my clients occasionally find themselves with "no problems" to talk about. I smile and remind them—We don't need problems to create progress. Let's just chat and see what amazing things we can come up with, starting from a place of strength and curiosity. So, remember… Coaching isn’t just for problems; it’s for unleashing your potential. How do you view coaching? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Stop trying to ditch imposter syndrome. Do this instead...Everyone's telling you to overcome imposter syndrome to succeed. I say, screw that—embrace it. Feeling like an imposter means you're pushing your limits and aiming high. So, the next time you feel like an imposter, remember this: You're on to making a major impact. Embrace it, manage it, and let it drive your accomplishment, not you. It's a sign you're doing something right.
