Light Runic Attacks
Heavy Runic Attacks
The Blades of Chaos have been Kratos's weapon ever since the original God of War (2005). In the original, Ares bound the weapon to Kratos after striking a deal so that he could strike down all of his enemies. In God of War: Ragnarok, we use these weapons again and they come with a good selection of attachments, upgrades, and, of course, powerful runic attacks.

With the addition of the Leviathan Axe in God of War (2018), the game series took a slower approach to combat, but the Blades of Chaos still remained and are still made to hit fast and wide to deal with a wide group of enemies, including all of the light and heavy runic attacks in God of War: Ragnarok.
Light Runic Attacks
Here are the five light runic attacks for the Chaos Blades. These come out faster and tend to do less damage than the heavy runic attacks.
Cyclone Of Chaos
This light runic attack can be found in the centre of Midgard on the eastern side of Tyr's Temple. There is a Raider Stronghold that can be found inside and, once you have cleared out all of the enemies, there will be a Legendary chest that will give you the runic attack.
Cyclone of Chaos is a circling sweep that effectively clears out surrounding enemies. Upgrading this attack will increase its duration and will give it the maximum amount of Stun.
Flames Of Anguish
This runic attack is found during the main mission, The Quest For Tyr, after defeating a Dreki.
Flames of Anguish create a fiery geyser that launches enemies up into the sky, dealing high Runic. Upgrading this light runic attack will increase the number of eruptions.
Hades Retribution
This light runic attack is found in Alfheim hidden away in the Temple of Light. To reach the Legendary chest, follow the main path inside the Temple from the Mystic Gateway, until you have to use your Blades of Chaos to reach a large bridge. Take a right on the bridge and continue up the staircase until you see a ledge to the left. Clear out the enemies and the Legendary chest is just below on another ledge.
Hades Retribution stabs the enemies with the Blades of Chaos, embedding a fiery bomb inside of them that will explode after a few seconds. Upgrading this attack will increase the number of bombs you can embed into the enemy, with the final explosion doing more damage.
This runic attack is especially effective against bosses as it can stagger most of them out of their attacks and then stagger them a few seconds later when the bombs explode.
Helios Flare
Helios Flare is found in the Abandoned Village in Vanaheim. To get this light runic attack, simply progress through the Village until you encounter an open area with a rotatable crane. Use this crane to reach the legendary chest on the platform next to it.
Helios Flare is a long-range firebolt that will deal a good amount of Burn. Upgrading this attack will add several secondary explosions, increase its range and damage, and will set off a larger final explosion similar to Hades Retribution.
Rampage Of The Furies
To make finding this light runic attack easier, use the mission Freya's Missing Piece as a guide to find the Legendary chest in the area. For the Rampage of the Furies, you want to head to Vanaheim and towards the Vanir Shrine where you will find a gate closed with the Legendary chest behind it.
Simply look for some of the blue vines that you can burn away, which will reveal a small hole you can use to help open the gate and obtain the attack.
Rampage of the Furies is a flurry attack that finishes with a powerful cross-slash. Upgrading this attack will increase the duration of the attack as well as increase its damage and Burn.
Heavy Runic Attacks
Here are the five heavy runic attacks that will often act as your biggest moves. These will be especially effective at taking out a large group of enemies.
Atlas Eruption
This heavy runic attack can be found in Svartalheim as you head up towards The Forge. To get this Legendary chest, simply complete the puzzle using Brok and your Leviathan Axe to freeze the geysers and move the elevator down so that you can access it and then move it up where you will find the Legendary chest.
Atlas Eruption repeatedly thrusts the Blades of Chaos into the ground, creating several explosions. Upgrading this attack will increase the number of eruptions.
Meteoric Slam
This heavy runic attack is unlocked by collecting 38 of Odin's Ravens, which will then allow you to open the Legendary chest in Niflheim.
Meteoric Slam is a slam attack that brings down a rain of fire, dealing high Burn and damage. Upgrading this attack will create shard explosions on impact and increase the damage of the attack.
Nemean Crush
Nemean Crush can be found immediately after freeing the Hafgufa in the favour Song Of The Sands. The Legendary chest can be found just before the exit of The Burrows in Alfheim.
Nemean Crush releases a fiery shockwave that sends enemies in the area flying back. Upgrading this attack will release a volley of explosions following the shockwave.
Tame The Beast
During the mission, The Reunion, there is a Legendary chest that can be found whilst chasing the giant dog Gram.
This chest can be easily missed, but once the mission is complete, you will be able to buy the attack from the Blacksmith.
Tame The Beast releases a series of blade whips that scorch enemies. Upgrading this attack will allow for more whips and an upgrade in damage and Burn.
Tartarus Rage
To the East of Midgard by the Eternal Campfire, there is a Raider Camp. Defeat all the enemies inside along with the boss and open the Legendary chest to contain Tartarus Rage.
Tartarus Rage has Kratos slamming his blades together, which stagger and launch enemies away. Upgrading this heavy runic attack will increase the power of the final slam and leave behind a fiery trail.
